Neuroscience Drug Discovery

Therapies for diseases of the brain and mind represent an enormous area of unmet medical need. We are involved in neuroscience projects from both within and beyond our lab, in conjunction with scientists and staff from throughout Sanford Burnham Prebys, in an effort to meet this need.

Building on research on lysophospholipids and the FDA approval of four medicines (for Multiple Sclerosis), as well as new efforts based on chemical genomics to treat neurodegenerative diseases (particularly Alzheimer’s disease), new doors are being opened towards understanding and treating these and related diseases.

In existence for 30 years, we are an intrinsically diverse, international team of scientists with a passion for fundamental discovery and improving human health, especially by translating discoveries into genuine disease therapeutics. We use cutting-edge technologies to understand the mammalian brain, including genome and transcriptome analyses of single human brain cells, novel lipid biochemical and biological analyses, and drug discovery efforts that blend academic approaches with those typically found in industry.  We welcome inquiries from all who wish to join us in exploring the mysteries of the brain.
